Lights, Camera, Action: Ireland in Movies

Once MovieHi all. The Oscars are upon us, the end to another interesting Award Season with a lot of glitz and glam being brought directly to our living rooms via our TV set. I’m kinda excited already and my list of movies that I need to watch soon is getting longer and longer as every year around this time :-) Anyway, as I’m on the movie-buzz at the moment, I thought it would be a great idea to take the opportunity to talk about my favourite subject: Ireland in Movies. Looking for a Romantic Break away from it all? Here is a tip!

Roganstown hotelHere is my tip: If you want to spend a couple of romantic and relaxing days close to Dublin, book the Roganstown Hotel in Swords.Hey guys, how was your St Valentine’s Day? How was your week?
Last Sunday I went to visit Whitefriar Church with my parents, and we read that St Valentine’s Day is supposed to announce the beginning of spring & the beginning of the courtship season for birds. :)
Talking about romantic…. While my parents visited me here in Dublin, they stayed at the Roganstown Hotel in Swords. They picked this hotel because they’ve heard that it was very romantic: lovely location in the middle of the typical green Irish countryside, gorgeous spa on-site and cozy bedrooms. After all they were here for Valentine’s Day, right?! And they weren’t disappointed!

Here is my tip: If you want to spend a couple of romantic and relaxing days close to Dublin, book the Roganstown Hotel in Swords.

The Lakes of Connemara

Renvyle BeachLast Saturday I went out with my French friends here in Dublin. When we were talking about music they mentioned this very popular French song about Connemara, called “Les Lacs du Connemara” (The Lakes of Connemara) which is often the last song played in the nightclubs and discos around France. Apparently French people go crazy when they hear that song: They are lying in each other’s arms and do some kind of “sirtaki-“dance. Absolutely hilarious if you ask me. Well, Ireland spreads its love all over the world :-)

Anyway… this song and all the talking about Connemara reminded me of my plans on going there soon when I’m on my big Tour of Ireland this March (I can’t wait).”! So I started doing some research on things to see and do in this famous region in the west of County Galway and what I already knew was only confirmed, Connemara is an absolute “must see. Irish Christmas Traditions

Irish SantaIt’s nearly Christmas!!! I’ve opened more than half of the doors of my advent calendar already and I’m really busy finding nice Christmas presents for my friends and family. Decorating houses and Christmas trees (as cheesy & glittery as possible!), listening to Christmas songs (and obviously singing along), baking Christmas cookies, looking for the perfect Christmas Party outfit and doing our Christmas shopping with thousands of other desperate people – these are all well-known (pre) Christmas “traditions”  in many countries.  But living here in Ireland now, I was wondering if there are Christmas traditions that are typically Irish; customs that I’ve never heard of before. And… Surprise! Of course there are. I did some research and look what I came across:
