Kiss the Blarney Stone!
Last week, we gave you some ideas on how to beat the January Blues – and here is one more: head South to County Cork to visit Blarney Castle, 8 km northwest from Cork city …. and kiss the famous Blarney Stone!!
A bit of history
The Castle has not always been as it is nowadays. It’s actually the third monument that was built on the site. The first building in the tenth century was a wooden structure that was replaced in 1200 by a stone structure which had the entrance some twenty feet above the ground!! This building was demolished and finally in 1446 the actual castle was built by Dermot McCarthy, King of Munster.
